Travel Days Series - Linocut Prints Japan

This week I am in limbo with one kid in school and one not starting into after Labor Day. So we are juggling! For this reason, we are going back to an old tutorial inspired by Japan for this week's Travel Days series that you can find here or below.

I fell in love with this country after visiting for a friend's wedding. The culture, the food, the juxtaposition of nature and architecture, the minimalism of the decor and lifestyle, and the combination of modern and traditional techniques in the artwork. There is so much to inspire your work from the calligraphy, woodblock prints, and beautiful silks. Today's video, will walk through a photo transfer onto a linoleum block and techniques to help you through the process. Don't forget to check out our other posts on Japan below to inspire your art practice today!

Woodblock printing is so iconic in Japanese art. The detailed designs and multiple layered prints are so inspiring. The printing process was adopted as a means of mass production of prints. These gorgeous relief carvings portray the country and culture throughout history. In our video, we will discover linocut printing techniques and supplies for artists and families alike.
