Travel Days Series - Kauai, Hawaii

This weeks Travel Days series is inspired by one of my favorite places to visit and one that my family and I have been to several times….Kauai. You know those places that make you believe in magic again? This is that place! We always say that Kauai has a heartbeat, something that connects you in a way you can’t feel everywhere.

I have a great love and appreciation for many areas on the island but my absolute favorite spot is on the North shore near Hanalei. The exquisite jetting lush green backdrops surrounded by turquoise waters. The incredible local flora and fauna. There is so many different directions you could take to get inspired. Don’t hold your breath I may have an entire class on this incredible place soon its just too good!

But for now, we will focus on a short lesson to inspire your art practice. We are looking to the palm trees for inspiration, working in our acrylic paints, bright tropical palette, and making quick movements to create interest. I wanted something playful and joyous to transport me back to the island. Think about how you want to feel when you are creating your piece and also how you want the viewer to feel? This can determine your palette, your perspective, and the style you use.

Lets begin our journey to Kauai!

Art Supplies

The best supplies are the ones you have on hand! I always include my art supply list in case you feel like adding a new medium to your practice but it is never necessary to buy the supplies. I find it far better to create then to wait because you don’t have the “right” supplies.

Arches Hot Press Watercolor Paper

Liquetex Clear and White Gesso

Artist Tape

Charvin Acrylic Paint

Caran d’Ache Neocolor II Crayons
