Nepalese Cuisine

For this month’s Nepalese cuisine we cooked Dal Bhat (red lentils and basmati rice) Aloo Gobi (cauliflower and potato curry), and Roti. You could certainly make a curry chicken in addition to these dishes. The garlic, ginger, turmeric, coriander and paprika added such amazing flavors to these dishes! Served over basmati rice this was a perfect dish for the family to enjoy! We used a mix of lentils instead of the red lentils and you can easily swap Roti for Naan bread found at your local store. One of our favorite activities to help our kids and guests try new dishes and foods is to let them bang a gong if they try a new item! I give all the credit to Kelly from Bean Sprouts. We went to one of her kids cooking classes and she suggested this amazing idea. For a long time, we would just use a pot and a wooden spoon but I finally purchased this gong which happens to be from Nepal so it only seemed fitting to bring up this acquired tradition now! Our kids will try lots of new foods just so they can bang the gong. Kids can sometimes be picky eaters so this trick works wonders. In our house, a willingness to try is everything in life!
