Mexico Inspired Calavera Project

Calavera or Skulls are often seen in Dia De Los Muertos or the “Day of the Day” festival in Mexico. These ornately decorated skulls can be found at Ofrendas and used as offerings or decoration to the deceased. They are a symbol of honoring the dead. The skulls can be edible and are known as sugar skulls, made of clay, paper mache or drawn on paper. This is a fun craft to work on with your friends, family, kids or grandkids and a great way to connect to the culture and traditions of Mexico.

The use of skull figures have dated back to indigenous cultures in the 1500’s and have since evolved when Mexico was colonized by the Spanish.
