Japanese Kids Projects Wrap-Up

For our kids projects inspired by Japan, we worked on Kimono and textile design, explored linocut printing, we folded origami animals and we tried different Shibori techniques. Not only is it important to me to expose my kids to the arts and allow them to work with their hands, I think it is especially important for them to learn about different people and cultures. I want them to know and appreciate different ways of living and thinking. Allowing them to learn about ideas that are different than what they know. I find travel to be the number one way to expose children to the world. You learn so much when you visit a place. Since we can not always be on the road, I created my Art Passports journey with this idea in mind. Here is a wrap-up of some of the projects we worked on inspired by Japan.

Origami Animals

Cut sheets of paper into squares. Preferably different pattern papers.

We worked from two books for our origami animals, Easy Origami and My First Origami Kit. Both had wonderful ideas and made it easy to visually see photographs of each step.
