Artist Travel Bag Mexico!
OK OK I know…
We can't really go anywhere right now but i am trying to fill my “travel itch” with a pretend packed bag to mexico!
In studying Mexico for our new course, my pretend bags are packed and I am ready to go!
I love the emphasis of the arts in Mexico. You can find artistic elements throughout the country. The colorfully painted homes both internally and externally, the vibrant textiles found at the markets, the detailed copal wood alebrijes sculptures, the local bright flowers, all had a huge impact on me as an artist. When thinking of what I would bring with me on an art trip, I wanted to bring some colorful items that reflected the feel of Mexico. I also wanted some art materials that are easy to take on the go.
These were created as a jewelry roll but I thought it would be an amazing roll to carry some of your art supplies.

Arte Otomi has beautiful wearables and home goods. The patterns are so unique, vibrant, and just gorgeous.

These crayons are fantastic! They go on paper like a crayon but they are water soluble so when you add water they move like watercolors. They also come in a variety of vibrant colors and can be purchased individually on BLICK Art Supplies. I love when you can purchase items individually rather than a set because you can buy the colors you really resonate with and will use.

I was so fortunate to visit the Frida Kahlo exhibit at the Denver Art Museum this year. They had some amazing stainless steel tumblers and pitchers that would be ideal to hold some of your paintbrushes or drink your coffee from.

Whether in my studio or traveling, this is a must. I use Stabilo in my journals, portraits, landscapes, florals, and abstracts. Stabilo allows you to draw a base layer and also to move it around with water.
I am absolutely in love with my Sony A6300 mirrorless camera. The Alpha Series is perfect for travel because they are compact. I have since purchased a couple prime lenses for portrait photography but the kit is all you need to start. This bag or camera strap seemed a perfect addition.

There are so many great watercolor sets out there! I love these by PoemsAboutYou on Etsy because you can purchase them as a set or individually. I opted to buy some of my favorite colors individually and carry them in a pouch or small box.

In our course, we create a journal spread inspired by Frida’s diary pages. The pages are filled with the inner workings of Frida. They are so raw and connect to her emotional and physical pain throughout her life. They are seeped in symbolism from her Mexican heritage, symbols from other cultures, and political representations. A must see!
This is one of my favorite journals to work in! I often do mixed media work and the paper is nice and thick so you can add lots of layers. They even have an envelope at the front to collect little items on your travels or in your studio such as ephemera, photos, recipes etc.

I love these handprinted boxes made in Oaxaca. I would use this in my studio to hold supplies such as loose watercolor pans, my Neocolor crayons, charcoal, acryla gouache or pencils. You could easily carry this small box on the go to protect your materials as well.
