Escapism Art Prompt

We often create travel related lessons and videos in this space. We explore the outside world through our view or perspective. Today, our lessons is a self journey prompt addressing Escapism.

We all have ways of dealing with conflict, pain, or fears in our lives. Some of us address our issues head on and some of us run for the hills. I personally am on the later front. I will find distractions in any shape or form to keep me from dealing with issues. Something I am striving to do better at.

As many of you probably have, I landed upon the Enneagram a while back. The Enneagram by definition is “A system of personality typing that describes patterns in how people interpret the world and manage their emotions” (The Enneagram Institute). When I first happened upon it, I think I was absorbing the information on a surface level. I was understanding concepts and traits but not really reflecting or applying them to my own personal experiences and life. I took the test during the pandemic (possibly at a time when I was at an unhealthy stage of my type) and I believe I mistyped myself as one of my lines. I recently rediscovered the Enneagram or came back to it and have been absorbed in books and podcasts since. I have found words and meaning behind why I do the things I do. Patterns that connect to different points in my life. I feel it has given me a better understanding of myself and given me words to express my experiences. And to truly be understanding of the world and compassionate to others points of view, I think we must understand ourselves first.

Today’s prompt is inspired by the Enneagram, specifically Sara Jane Case podcast The Enneagram and Coffee. If you haven’t already, I highly recommend following her and her podcast. We will address the idea of Escapism or the tendency to distract from reality. This prompt feels very vulnerable for me for many reasons. I have a tendency not only to run from reality but also I pride myself in my independence so I rarely involve or share with others when I am dealing with pain, fear, or any kind of discomfort. I am a glass half full person always seeking the positive. Anyone else? So today, I put myself forward hoping that you can connect in some way to your own ways of dealing with conflict in life. Art journaling is such a powerful tool for self reflection and I hope you use it in your practice in the way you see fits.

Join me in this self journey prompt today to dive deeper into how we react to conflict in our lives.
